After a one week holiday, to process the last matches in the World League of whom we were able to win only one in China, we recommenced our practices. We were also pretty close to win the first match in the USA. The trip was the longest we had ever seen as a group. Firstly we flied to China with 7 ours time difference to continue from there to Wichita with another 13 ours time difference. This resulted in the longest 14 July ever: 37 ours. In the USA we had some side-effects. One time we were with approximately 10 guys awake around 6 o'clock and at 6.30 drinking coffee in the hotel lobby and waiting for our breakfast which only started at 8.30.
In the USA we played in a great accommodation the Wichita State University, everything around this arena breaths sport. They had really cool locker rooms and their weightlifting area was completely customized.
All in all this WL brought us a lot although it also pointed out on what parts we should work. Now we are preparing for the final World Championships qualification in 2 weeks in Varna (Bulgaria). Before that we stop by in France for some friendly matches coming weekend.

Although we started sharply against the Italians on saturday we were not able to win any match last weekend. We won the first two sets on saturday but after two changes on the Italian side we weren't able to turn the tide anymore. The first match we lost 2-3 and the second on sunday 0-3. We weren't able to reach our level from the first two weekends except from set one and two on saturday. We will now prepare for next weekend, we will again play two times against Italy. On friday we will play in Mantova and on sunday in Modena.

Two 3-0 victories over China

This weekend we played in Apeldoorn in the new 'Omnisportcentrum' our second WL weekend. The city of Apeldoorn made a succes out of this weekend and demonstrated how beautifull their new sportscentre really is. With 4500 spectators on saturday and 4800 spectators on sunday the arena was quite packed. In two days almost 9500 fans were able to view us and enjoy our two victories over China.

Our opponent China is completely different from the most teams we played against the last few years. We knew this was a good team, present at the olympics and the week before they defeated Italy one time with 3-0. They have a really quick style of play and a good control over the ball.

We played a good weekend in side-out but had our difficulties in our own point phase. It was hard to read the setter and to place a good organised block against the quick attackers. But every time we were able to make some extra points we left the Chinese behind. This resulted in two really nice victories and a first place in Pool A of the WL. Next weekend we will play in Eindhoven against our 'eternal' rival Italy. We played against Italy 1,5 years ago for the Olympics qualifications but since than their team has changed substantially. It all depends on our level how much we can put them in difficulty. Do you want to see us in action? Order tickets at the NeVoBo website and garantee a seat! Cu next weekend in Eindhoven!

Great start in WL against USA

This weekend we played against the olympic champion and defending WL winner from last year. Although their team isn't anymore complete they still have a pretty good team. We didn't have any images on beforehand so didn't really know what to expect. The only thing we could do was to prepare ourselves to the maximum and we did. But than on the day before the match Lars Lorsheijd our middleblocker blocked his back pretty bad. Peter wanted to invent a solution and had me practise on the middle again. In the first match this worked out pretty well and we performed great as a team. We won 3-0 and kept the USA under constant pressure.

The second match was a different storry, again we started in the same formation, but we had way more difficulties. USA was serving good and had an excellent efficiency in their side-out. In the end we lost 3-2 but if you look to the stats only we should probably loose 3-0 not because we did so terrible but USA played pretty much the perfect match.

Today we concluded the 2 matches against USA and started our preparation for the next 2 matches against China. On saturday we will play them at 17.00 and on sunday at 15.00 in Apeldoorn. Tickets are still available on the NeVoBo website
